Booxter App Reviews

13 Customer Reviews:

Nice enough, of course even though the scanning via iPhone app goes very smoothly, some curating is necessary to make sure the final entries are correct. If you are based in Europe and your library contains mainly non-US books, mute the search options for all US providers (and certainly Amazon) to get more precise entries. The big problem with this app is that it crashes too often. Do make sure that you save every 5 entries or so. Also, I do not like the fact that under “Description”, the software frequently places an ad of some (Canadian?) internet bookseller. For EUR 30 one would expect a non-crashing, ad-free, thoroughly professional application. Otherwise I don’t seem to be able to save my library on an external hard drive; it only stores on my Mac, which could eventually land me in dire straits storage-wise (I have a library of 6000 volumes). Hardware: MacPro 13 late 2013; OS X Yosemite 10.10.5 iPhone 6 iOS 9.01

To me, this App was a miracle. I was personally cataloging my personal library of over 400 novels - not including non-fiction - until I happened across this app. It has a great way to view books, and the smart list is a great way to keep similar books in one spot if I am inputting them at different times, in between many other books. I can only think of two flaws: 1. If the sources are flawed, the information gathered is flawed. But that really cannot be solved by Booxter unless they created a master data-base for books. 2. There is no way to get statistics on the books I own. Average price, number of pages, and such. That is something I would most definitely recommend that the developers look into. Bottom Line: If the developers continue to improve this app, (even if not) I highly recommend it. If you love books, this is well worth the $30. *Note: You cannot read the novels you enter.

Booxter is elegant, fast, practice to catch bibliography information through a scan code. But it doesn’t work correctly. It shows first the family name then the name, e.g., Mark Twain instead Twain Mark. The bibliography list is useless. If you export in ‘bibtex’ format the problem stays. If you want to know if you do something wrong and you ask the support of Booxter you stay alone with your problem: I waited 3 weeks and wrote 10 emails. Conclusion: good idea, big bug, terrible service. It’s a peaty.

Im just interested in cataloging my books (at this point, at least). As a personal quirk, I like my books sorted by Library of Congress call numbers (Im one of those for whom PR6019.O9 U4 holds some meaning). Im happy to say that Booxter was able to appropriately sort my books. My books are all over the place and the ability to quickly mark in which location a given book resides was also helpful. Booxter was quick at downloading information about books, including grabbing LC calls, so I didnt have to tediously paste them in from my old list. It would be perfect if the iSIght scanning worked a little better. Typically, I couldnt grab the ISBN from the barcode and had to type them in by hand. Another minor problem was that it didnt seem to like 13-digit ISBNs, although 10-digit ones worked fine. Entry could have been smoother. Synchronization with my iPhone was smooth, once I realized that changes had to be saved before they would sync. All in all, a solid app that will make figuring out what books you have (and where youve shelved them) easier.

I was totally in love with Booxter Lite and so I upgraded to Booxter. Then, sometime after the upgrade, I lost the ability to add new books. I know there is supposed to be a larger capacity than the 138 books I have in Booxter. I emailed the customer service number on the Deep Prose website and havent received a response. Bummer!

I purchased this app so I would have all my books listed with me whenever I went to the library or bookstore. I loved the idea of being able to share the list between my Mac and mt ipod Touch, even though I was a little hesitant to spend so much money on an app. I figured it would be worth it for the convenience of not having to create a manual catalog of my books. Almost right away I ran into problems - the barcode photo scanner was very sensitive so it took a long time to get a clear enough picture for the app to recognize the book. It was faster to type the barcodes in by hand, so I did. That wasnt so bad, but it was not made clear in the description of the app that you would need wifi to transfer between the two. I did not have wireless in my home at the time, so it did not work. I recently added a wireless internet to my home and tried to transfer the files, it did not work. I followed the directions given to share with Bonjour from my Mac, opened sharing in the Touch app, and got nothing. After several tries, I gave up in frustration. Apps are supposed to be easy to use, and this one is just about useless. I wish the app store gave refunds, I would definitely return this app if possible. It is a complete waste of money, and such a disappointment when I had such high hopes for it.

I had great hopes for this app. And I have tried repeatedly to use it successfully. But its design just isnt good enough, it doesnt work well enough, and it has no support at all. I mean, not even a FAQ, and almost no instructions. I was really looking forward to being able to get call numbers and subject headings for my books, and I loved the idea of being able to sort and print out lists. I have thousands of books and it is very, very time-consuming to try to catalog them by hand. However, many of my books are old enough to lack ISBNs, and quite a few are even older and lack LC numbers. Booxter cant help me with these! As for printing, it really doesnt work; if you use more than a few fields (and why wouldnt you, when Booxter offers so many?) they dont fit on the paper! I have spent a year trying to get Booxter to be worth *any* effort, let alone money, but at this point I am giving up. The effort of cataloging my books by hand will actually be more rewarding.

Although I experienced a few difficulties in making the iPhone app work properly, I must say that this app is excellent. My entire collection (+500 international books) was quickly added to the database, and the information gathered was usually precise and complete. I would highly recommend it for those who need to manage large collections of books. However I would appreciate better documentation and a more intuitive interface.

Picked up the lite version to help catalog my comics, and ended up finding the interface, while hard to navigate initially, very full of information and was helpful to explain the system. Some of the batch loading and batch editing appears to be a little glitchy, but all in all, its an awesome tool and does exactly what it says to do and catalogs my comics. Im getting started getting my books and possibly movies in there too. Best tool Ive seen so far for comic cataloging on the Mac. A little spendy, but if youre an archivist of your own media, its worth every penny.

I’ve been using Booxter for 3 years and very happy with it. Highly recommend it. I just wish the Description field was added to the Batch Edit so that all the descriptive junk that publishers add could be deleted in one shot. With thousands of books this is difficult to do one-by-one and makes the Search function pretty useless.

I really enjoy using this program. A very hand App to pull together all my various collections. There are a few additions I would add (such as “Current real price” in addition to original price and current highest price), and some other minor issues. Also, I still have not figure out how to export my collections to my iPad / iPhone. But, here is a big problem I just encountered. I’m using an iMac running OS 10.10.5. Booxter has a tendency to crash at random times, for no reason. It has done this to me on more than a few occasions, and since I had not saved my current work, it erased everything that I had worked on for the past hour. Very annoying, and must be fixed. That aside, it’s a great work in progress and a great tool - but if you don’t fix the crashing issue, a lot of people are going to be upset.

Good app concept; poor/unreliable support

I love Booxter in principle. It does what I had hoped. Trouble is, some files won't open. Customer support not helpful or, worse, not at all responsive. (I haven't tried recently, but I did repeatedly some time ago. It seemed that they walked out of the store forever while keeping the lights on so that people would think there is actually somebody there.) I would love to access those files -- after all,, they are an important record! (Or they were supposed to be.)

Can't Enter Comics

I purchased this product tonight to catelog my comics. I cannot add comics for some reason. It seems like the interface between the online data base for comics and the program is not working. I cannot find anywhere to seek technical support. I tried to use a Books data base and it works great. Unfortunately, I want to use it for comics.

A Really Good Library App
